The U18s began 2015 were they finished off 2014 with another victory. They saw off a good hard working Fakenham Town team 2-1.

Soham who haven't been in action since mid December began the game really poorly looking so off the pace and very reactive in every moment. The legs and minds wasn't working and they could have been behind by a couple of goals only for a combination of poor finishing and a decent save from Brandon Phillips. To make things worse Soham were forced into making an early double change with both Phillips and Alex Ashdjian both struggling through injury. Charlie Root and Roly Dickinson were there replacements.
It was Root who showed great leadership and battling qualities to help the team get a foot hold in the game and his energy and determination was infectious as others around him grew into the game. A few chances were made but nothing to clear cut. Soham thought they had taken the lead just before the half hour when Roly Dickinson struck a dipping volley from 30yards out with the ball hitting the underside of the crossbar and appearing over the line. The officials never saw it which frustrated the home team to say the least. Moments later Soham did take the lead when Dom Hunt scored lobbing the goalkeeper after initially the ball had been cleared away from a dangerous Aidan Course corner. There was still time for Soham to double there lead before half time when good chances came and went Through Dickinson and Course.

The second half started a lot brighter for the visitors, showing more intent and aggression in there play. They equalised five minutes into the half through a long range strike.
Both teams continued in search for a second goal but through stubborn and aggressive defending from both sides neither could grab that all important goal. Jamie Simper also showed moments of reassurance in goal and made some really important decisions for the team in vital moments. Soham made changes to freshen things up to look for that extra bit of quality to hopefully unlock a good Fakenham Town defence. With the game petering out it seemed like the points were going to be shared until Callum Russell showed excellent energy to latch onto a well threaded pass by Joe Biggs in the inside right channel and finished supblimly chipping the keeper from tight angle. The visitors continued to push for that equaliser but couldn't find that quality necessary to unlock Soham's defence.

Soham have now picked up 16 points from a possible 18 which has climbed them into 3rd in the league. They next travel to Swaffham Town.
