Soham Town Rangers FC 0 - Tilbury 1

Simon Cullum9 Dec 2011 - 12:09

A 90th minute striker gave Tilbury the victory as Soham suffered their second defeat of the week to a team in and around the playoffs.

With Tom Liberatore and Rogan McGeorge missing through suspension, the Greens made three changes from the Grays game with Martin Bromwich and Simon Flanz returning in defence, whilst there was a debut for Youth Team Captain Scott Davis at right back.
From the outset this was an evenly contested game and it continued like this throughout. Ogbonna, Worrell, Henty and Cook all fired efforts at the opposition keeper before Simpson placed over following good build up play down the left by Cobb and Ogbonna. Cotton and Ogbonna both curled efforts wide of the post, whilst up the other end of the pitch, Bircham had to come of his line on numerous occasions to deal with balls into his area. Carter came closest to opening the scoring with five minutes of the half remaining, but was denied by Marrable, with the keeper tipping over the midfielder’s volley from 25 yards, who also headed over from the resultant corner. Robinson also came close just before the end, but fired Cotton’s throughball straight at Marrable from the edge of the area.
The game continued in the same manner after the break although chances were more limited with Ogbonna having a shot across goal deflected wide of the far post whilst Cook’s goal bound header was blocked. Both sides made changes around the midway mark of the second half with Stephen Good and Stephen Demetrion coming on for Tilbury’s Gary Skerritt and Brad Barnes while the Greens introduced Andy Furnell and another youth team debutant James Poulton for the injured Dubi Ogbonna and Scott Davis. However as the referee indicated the start of injury time, and it looking like the points would be shared the Dockers claimed a dramatic late winner as Alex Read collected the ball wide on the left, cutting in field firing a low effort past Bircham at his near post from 25-yards. The visitors could have doubled their lead late into stoppage time, but Aiken shot wide of the near post.
