Having earned an injury time equaliser at bottom of the table Great Wakering Rovers at the weekend, the Greens were forced into changes to the side due to player unavailability for their trip to Essex, however gave a debut to recent signing Adrian Cambridge.

Despite the early dismissal of Matt Cripps, Brightlingsea had the majority of the first halves play with Kelly twice advancing towards the Soham area to have early efforts before the sending off of the Regent Captain for a reckless challenge on Charley Barker in the tenth minute. Mulready placed wide before the hosts opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Billy Hunt collected a cross-field ball towards the left of the area to fire a low angled shot across Conroy. The keeper then made a save to keep out Malton’s freekick, whilst Tom Richardson placed wide before doubling the host’s lead in the 32nd minute when despite appearing to be in an offside position, headed a left sided cross low into the net. The striker had two further efforts, whilst Ramadan fired into the side netting before Soham halved the deficit two minutes before the break with player-manager Robbie Mason getting the final touch to Hall’s corner.

Clear chances where limited at either end in the early stages of the second half until Conroy made a strong save to push away Hogan’s effort from distance midway through the half, with Mulready testing Cowler moments later from Mason’s ball. Both side made changes before Regent secured the win in the 74th minute when Richardson scored his second of the game with a back post header from Turner’s corner.
