Having ended an eight League match run without a win at home to AFC Hornchurch at the weekend, the Greens made three changes to the side, giving debuts to new signings Lewis Endacott and Spyros Mentis, whilst Ryan Sharman returned in place of the suspended Lloyd Groves and Robbie Mason, and the unavailable Darren Foxley.
This was the second meeting between the two sides this season, with the Ambers winning by the same 4-0 score line in the opening week of the campaign.

The game started at a quick pace as Sharman placed narrowly wide with an early effort before Lawton got down well to push Bruno’s low freekick through the wall wide. Soham opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Adeboyejo collected Gent’s long ball up field, lifting it over the advancing Gooch, who had come rushing out of his area, with the striker taking the ball towards the right of the area before delivering it across goal allowing Ryan Sharman to convert at the back post. The hosts were soon back on the attack, with Jones making his way into the area wide of Lawton only for Gent to slide in and clear with Hallett firing well over moments later. The Greens doubled their lead midway through the half when Tennent flicked on a left sided ball for Sharman to follow in and score his second of the game. Now two up, Soham continued to attack till the break however were unable to add to the score line.

Cheshunt made a double substitution at the interval, however it was Soham that started where they had left off from the first half as Adeboyejo just failed to connect with Swinton’s ball across the area whilst Gent rose to head over. The Ambers started to deliver a number of dangerous balls into the visitor’s area but the defence remained strong easily dealing with them whilst sub Marshall fired over from distance. Twenty minutes into half and Soham all but confirmed the win by scoring their third, as Swinton ran onto a forward ball down the right, delivering it low into the middle of the area to Victor Adeboyejo, who after taking a touch, placed into the bottom corner. Shortly after, Cheshunt came close to pulling a goal back as Bruno had a shot deflected wide, with Kizzi heading against the bar from the resultant corner whilst Jones’ follow up was blocked on the line. With ten minutes remaining, Adeboyejo played a one-two with Sharman to work his way into the area only to fire over, whilst Relizani tried his luck from distance with Gooch pushing away his shot before Soham scored a fourth in the 84th minute as Gent heading on McDonald’s corner, with Joe Tennent helping the ball across the line for his first goal for the club. Just before the end, Lawton made important saves to keep out Bolle and Hallett, whilst the Greens came close to adding a fifth late into stoppage time, however after being played in by Adeboyejo, Paterson saw his initial shot saved by Gooch only to shot wide with the follow up.

The result sees Soham claim their second consecutive win and clean sheet whilst climbing four places out of the relegation zone and up to twentieth.
