Both sides came into the game on the back of two defeats, with the visitors conceding eleven goals during these games.
The Greens made three changes to the side which has lost at Phoenix Sports at the weekend with Simon Swinton returning to the starting eleven, whilst Wayne Goddard and Ben Sawyer made their first starts of the season.
The visitors had the better of large parts of the first half with Callander creating a number of efforts. The striker’s first opportunity came after ten minutes but after working down left and into the box was denied by Reynolds low on his line, before having another shot at Reynolds on the turn moments later. Sudbury continued to push forward having a couple of strikes wide of the post, while Parker headed wide and Callander had a shot deflected behind. Just after the half hour mark, Soham started to get into the game with Archer having the host’s first meaningful effort but from a knocked down freekick put over. With just over five minutes remaining Reynolds came off his line spreading himself to deny Callander, whilst up the other end Hall and McCabe has efforts blocked and Swinton put over from distance. The last action of the half fell to the visitors, however a well-timed Gent challenge on the edge of the area denied Parker getting in a shot at goal.
Reynolds was twice called into action in the opening stages of the second half, firstly pushing away Callander’s 30-yard freekick before making a low fingertip save to keep out Axcell following a quick break from a Soham corner. The game started to even out with Archer heading narrowly wide from a long Russell throw before Blackwell received Bailey’s angled ball to put over. It was Sudbury that finally broke the deadlock in the 69th minute when following good work down the right by Callander, the ball was played into Blackwell, who was again denied by Reynolds, however the keeper was unable to keep hold of the ball with Craig Parker following up to score from close range. Sudbury finished the game the strong with Reynolds again making a save to deny Callander, with the striker also placing twice into the side netting in the closing minutes.
This was Soham’s third consecutive defeat, whilst the win moves Sudbury up to second in the table.
