Soham Elite 2 v Bishops Stortford U16 4 Youth Development Friendly - Thursday 14/04/11 Soham were left to rue missed chances which in the end denied the team a win that the performance surely deserved against the Herfordshire Conference club's U16s, in a fast, open, exciting match.

After two minutes, the visitors were ahead when their best player beat the Greens offside trap to finish coolly. Rangers immediate response saw Tyler Phillips cut back pass set up Troy Georgiades who shot over from 12 yards out. Both Phillips and Georgiades had good chances to level before Luke Sterna 's precise corner found Yuki Shiroo on the edge of the box and his low drilled shot made it 1-1. Tom Richards should have scored putting his glancing header from Andy Potter's inch perfect free kick just wide, before Phillips curling 20 yard drive gave Soham a 2-1 half time lead. Rangers continued to dominate the play after the break; Phillips set up Sterna who shot wide. Just when it seemed that the Greens must score a third, against the run of play Storford equalised with a long range speculative shot that Will Holmes looked to have covered all the way only for the ball to somehow squirm out of his hands and roll into the net, a-la Heurelho Gomes! Stortford were rejuvenated and worked an opening on the left that put them 3-2 up. Rangers threw everything into attack switching to 3-4-3. Phillips fired into the side netting with supporters applauding what they thought was an equaliser, whilst twice the energetic Will Ellis was well placed but shot over before Dale Lawrence just 6 yards out hesitated just too long after a brilliant piece of individual play from Michael Thomas. Totally against the run of play Stortford scored again on the break. In the closing minutes, the Greens laid siege to the visitors goal including a series of corners, but found the Stortford keeper in immaculate form and simply could not force another goal. For Soham all of the squad produced good individual performances, the pick perhaps being Courtney Pettifor in defence whilst skipper Andy Potter looked back to his best and Dale Lawrence's creative midfield play was there for all to see. Holmes, Shiroo (Maskell), Pettifor, Pitt, Potter, Richards (Ellis), Prewett (Mortimer), Akroyd (Horton), Sterna (Lawrence), Georgiades (Thomas), Phillips Not Used: Jones
