BURNHAM 3 SOHAM TOWN RANGERS 0 A full strength Burnham side should have taken the lead in the very first minute when Ryan Bird fastened on to a free kick from Dave Tilbury, but with just keeper Ian Pledger to beat he managed to strike the custodians feet.

The early part of the game was very open with both sides creating chances to score. For the visitors the lively Deakin Napier probed well down their right and they had a shout for a penalty turned down when Burnhams Will Dunlop tackled Dubi Ogbonna in the box. Denis Fennemore had a couple of good breaks down the left, side footing just wide after getting clear and then failing to get enough power on a shot to bother Pledger. Paul Coyne released Burnham striker Craig OConnor but the Soham defence did well to block his shot for a corner. Rangers leading scorer Michael Simpson did well down the left and Adrian Sear made a timely tackle to prevent the visitors from taking the lead. The home team took the lead on 36 minutes and was the result of a good move. Stuart Swift broke up a Soham attack and released DENIS FENNEMORE down the left who ran on and fired in a low right footed shot beyond Pledger. As the interval approached Soham had a good opportunity to equalise,a good build up on their right saw Napier feed Callum Reed who crossed hard and low with the ball just failing to find Simpson, Burnham immediately broke forward and Fennemore cut inside and slipped the ball to RYAN BIRD who gave Pledger no chance with a firm drive. Burnham controlled the second period for the most part and squandered opportunities, a Coyne cross was headed straight into the arms of Pledger by Dunlop, and OConnor blazed over after a methodical Burnham build up. It was however not all one way traffic. Burnham keeper Paul McCarthy kept out a Josh Turnel shot at the second attempt and then the Burnham keeper came out after Napier had released Ogbonna, to smother the Soham strikers shot. Other chances fell to Burnham but their shooting was wayward with quite a few balls sailing over the crossbar and into the car park. Soham sub Andy Coleman had a shot deflected onto the upright and out for a corner, but Burnham still looked the more likely to score. Stuart Swift put in an excellent cross from the left but the Burnham strikers failed to capitalise. On 76 minutes, referee Allum spotted a foul in the visitors penalty area, committed by Scott Johnson and awarded a penalty to Burnham. Craig OConnor hit the awarded kick with some venom but keeper Pledger brought off a magnificent stop diving to his right. Burnham still had control and on 89 minutes made it 3-0. Fennemore this time down the right delivered the ball into the penalty area, where Burnham substitute JORDAN DOWDICAN held off two defenders to turn and fire low into the net.
