Manager Chris Gibson kept an unchanged squad again, going all out to attack Watton. It was the visitors however that started the brighter, forcing several corners and much to Gibsons annoyance forcing Soham back. As the managers instructions became clear, the pace was lifted, as Cameron Robb and James Seymour both forced defensive blocks and Luke Smith went close on several occasions. Seymour had a wonderful chance from his own creating, lifting the ball over a defender and turning well but he blasted just over. After 15 minutes though, Robb opened the scoring. Defender Matty Simpson floated a great ball over the defence and Robb ran through and lifted it over the advancing keeper from 20 yards. Another couple of chances went begging, Smith again went close and Robb was denied by a defender when about to shoot. On 26, Robb doubled his tally, Seymour muscled his way in off the right and after Davis slipped through to Robb, he coolly tucked past the keeper. The goals game quick; as ten minutes later, Seymour deservedly grabbed one of his own for his efforts. An in swinging corner caused havoc and Seymour instinctively tucked home from 6 yards out. As half time drew, Gibson demanded more of the same and encouraged more confidence on the ball. Second half was a lot like the first, Soham creating chances and Watton too came out of their shell but the impressive Joe Shippey swept up well in midfield and Simon Murfitt marshalled his back line. Smith went close again, blasting across goal and Tom Taylor hit a cross cum shot that a green foot failed to provide the finish for. Gibson introduced Chris Munday and Ryan Lowe for an attacking presence and Munday was inches away from scoring with his first touch. But in the 84th minute, he grabbed his chance, blasting home past an unsighted keeper into the far corner. And straight from the kick off, Smith scored a deserved goal of frustration as he robbed the forward and ran at goal, weaved past four players and fired home off both posts from 25 yards. A deserved end to some great attacking play throughout and Gibson was happy as the final whistle went. I said a few weeks back, I hadnt unleashed the full attacking threat I think this side can produce and I still think someone is due a right walloping off us sometime soon! he said. I was impressed with big spells of the game and we kept looking to go forward, Shippey was outstanding for us in the centre tonight and James Poulton is maturing well at the back. I hope we can take this into the cup game next week and get a good run of games under our belt to challenge for things.
