Soham Retain Mick North Trophy

Soham Retain Mick North Trophy

Simon Cullum19 Jul 2007 - 23:00

Soham last night won the Mick North Memorial trophy for the third time in as many years, thanks to a 5-0 win at Littleport Town.

Captain Michael Simpson got the scoring under way in the 14th minutes with an individual goal, collecting the ball on the halfway line, running the length of the Littleport half, beating three players before sliding the ball past the keeper. Soham were awarded a penalty in the 33rd minute for a handball; Charles Libam stepped up to convert the spot kick. Stuart Williams got his second goal in as many games, when he headed home from a long Jimson throw five minutes before half time. In injury time at the end of the half, Libam got his second of the half when he received a well played through ball from Turner, before rounding the keeper and slotting home. The final goal of the match came five minutes before the end of the game, when a number of players combined, for Johnson to play the ball across the area for Scott Carter to fire home. One big plus point of the night was the long awaited return of Martin Bromwich, who missed the whole of last season with a back injury. Martin started the game, before being taken off seven minutes into the second half. Soham Team: L. Jordan, M. Bromwich (A. Clements 52), S. Johnson, A. Coleman (M. McNeil 46), S. Williams, M.
