Russell Reaches 100 Appearances

Simon Cullum5 Feb 2018 - 22:44

Soham’s game at Maldon and Tiptree on Saturday marked Callum Russell’s one hundredth game for the club.

Having progressed up through the Under 18s and Reserves, Russell scored on his 1st Team debut as the Greens beat Wroxham 3-1 towards the end of the 2014/15 season.
Having got to a century of appearances, the club’s 20 year old vice-captain has scored nine goals, and has also played in every position on the field, including goalkeeper.

Chairman Stuart Hamilton commented in the Cambridge News
“Callum came through as a youngster here and is now one of the first names on the team sheet for pretty much every game.
I’m really pleased for him and for the club as it shows bringing young players through pays off. He’s a real rock of the club now and his attitude is spot on. Because he came through the ranks here he seems to have green and white in his blood, but is also such a humble lad who just gets on with the job asked of him. He’s played in every position, including goalkeeper, which is a dream come true for managers, and he is so committed to the club.”

Following the game, manager Rob Mason tweeted
Massive achievement for our Vice Captain @Callumrussell_ on reaching the 100 game mark, a real credit to @SohamTownRanger. Shame we couldn’t get the 3 points to go with it.

After the game, which Soham lost 3-1, the club presented Callum with a special green and white cake to mark his achievement.
