U23s: STR U23S 2-4 Beach FC

The U23’s took on unbeaten Beach Fc this week in the the league. This was always going to be a big test and unfortunately we lost 4-2. Beach started well and we’re awarded a penalty on 10 minutes although the penalty was struck well Jacopo got down to his left and made a great save then followed up with another good stop from the follow up. This only spurred Beach on and when a cross from the right was volleyed in by the striker. As usual with these lads they started to get into the game and came close through Lewis who had a shot cleared off the line. Minutes later we were level when a ball from Lewis Murphy found Max 1 on 1 with the keeper who finished expertly. For the next 15 minutes we started to get on top but weren’t able to test the keeper enough. Then we shot ourselves in the foot when a stray pass allowed the Beach forward an
Open goal to make it 1-2. 2 soon became 3 from probably Beach’s best passing move of the game. Into the 2nd half we managed to pin Beach in their own half but not create enough and we were then undone by a cross which Jacopo made a great save but was followed in to make it 4-1. The last 20 minutes saw Robin hit the post from a free kick and James having 2 shots block and also shooting wide when in a good position. Afonso reduced the deficit from a quick corner from Jack. Whilst we lost we are so proud of the way these lads play the game, they are a credit to themselves & the club. What we saw from the opposition was a team who constantly berated the referee & managed to show a total lack of respect for the game. If this is what is needed to go and win games I would rather walk away. Don’t ever change lads!!!

Next week see the reverse fixture away to Beach Fc.

Man of the match once again went to Max Green. Another goal and outstanding all round performance.

U18s: STR U18s 6-0 Thetford Town U18s

The young greens welcomed Thetford Town U18s to the Just George Stadium on a mild November Tuesday night.

After a good warm up the Soham management team were looking for a positive response following defeat to local neighbours Newmarket 2 weeks ago in the u18s last league match.

After a good warm up and team talk the young greens started quickly in a 4-3-3 formation, and soon found themselves testing the visiting goal keeper.
The gk getting down well to his left to somehow push a fizzing shot destined for the bottom corner over the cross bar.

Soham were enjoying good spells of possession and the top 3 of Max, Charlie and Rhys looked lively.

On about the 5 minute mark, Soham got there deserved opener. A good, quick pass from midfield put Charlie through. Charlie showed great strength to hold of the defender and slot past the on rushing gk. 1 - 0.

Soham soon found themselves 2 nil up, when a good pass out to left found Rhys. Rhys used his pace and skill to drive at the defender and cut inside to strike to the ball across the goal into the far right hand corner. 2-0.

The 2nd half continued with the Soham back 5 rarely tested, but when they were the lads stood firm and timed tackles well.
The 1st half finished with Soham getting there 3rd in almost a carbon copy of the 2nd goal. This time though the ball was played out to the right hand side, where Max superbly bought the ball down out of the air to beat 2 defenders and firing his shot a cross the goal into the bottom left hand corner.

HT 3-0.

The 2nd half started in heavy rain a complete contrast to that of the 1st half, and Thetford started quickly. A through ball for the Thetford striker beating the Soham offside trap. However Isaac in the Soham goal, who had mostly been a spectator, stood firm to save well 1v1, to put the ball out for a corner.

Soham soon started playing again though and soon got there 4th. Again the lively Rhys cut in from the left to slot home 4-0.

Soham dominated the 2nd half and played some good football.
However our 5th and 6th goals didn't come from the good football but from corners.
The 5th goal scored by Tyler, getting his 1st for the club was from a corner played in from the left, a half clearnece by Thetford fell toTyler on the edge of the 18 yard box who volleyed home with his left foot into the top left hand corner. 5-0.

Our 6th and final goal again come from a corner, this time a good cross from the right hand side, found Daniel on the edge of the 6yard box, who outjumped everyone to power his header into the top right corner.

FT 6-0, but had it not been for the visitors goalkeeper the score could have been much more.

All in all, a mature, professional pleasing result and response from the Young greens at times playing some good quick football setting a good foundation, plus keeping a clean sheet!

Man of the match - the inform Max Green.

Our next match, and last game of 2025 is away to Sporting 87 om Thursday 11th December 2025.

LADIES RESERVES: March Town United Reserves 3-3 STR Reserves

Soham made the trip to March missing a few players but with a competitive squad.
After a delay to kick off we eventually got underway. The first 20 minutes passed by with very little happening on a muddy and sticky pitch but then Soham started to get on the ball and play some good football.
Kayla Edwards picked the ball up on the right wing and powered past a defender before finishing with a lovely chip into the far corner. This gave Soham confidence and dominated possession and created several more chances but just couldn’t convert them.
Unfortunately Soham were caught on a counter attack and March equalised.

This only spurred on the young Soham ladies and more chances came leading to Kara Firek picking up the ball just outside the area and with outstanding skill beat 3 players and unleash a thunderbolt of a shot in off the bar to give Soham the lead at half time.

2nd half started much the same with chances coming to both teams when Isla Knappett chased down a back pass to the March keeper who kicked it against Isla and it bounced in front to calmly finish into the open goal 3-1

Unfortunately the game was then taken out of Soham’s hands with March getting a penalty and a free kick on the edge of the area to make it 3-3

A real kick in the teeth for the Ladies who thoroughly deserved to win 3-1. And a bitter pill to swallow as couldn’t do anything about it.

Players of the match goes too Chloe Gilbey and Grace McLaughin

Next game is Sunday 7th December at Wicken vs Burwell

STR VETS: STR Vets 1-5 Moulton Vets

The Vets lost comprehensively against a good Moulton side. With a number of key players missing.

Our first defeat of the season.

We were 4-0 down by half time due to some mistakes and lack of press and energy.

The Second half started better as we pulled a goal back and went close a few times. Had we had scored another goal it might have made some difference.

Moulton scored 1 more despite an improved performance from us.
