British Gas Division One Midlands Review - 20/01/09

Simon Cullum21 Jan 2009 - 00:00

No doubting where the game of Tuesday night was in the British Gas Business Southern League Division One Midlands, Liberty Way, where Leamington scored a goal in each half to win the top of the table clash at second-placed Nuneaton Town 2-0 and increase their lead to fifteen points in front of a bumper gate of 1355.

Goals from Mark Bellingham after 18 minutes and sub and former Boro player Jamie Lenton four minutes from time completed the double over their Warwickshire rivals. Sutton Coldfield Town eased to a 3-1 home win over Stourport Swifts with Junior Brown opening the scoring two minutes into the second half and then Aaron Farrell on 78 and Craig Owen in the last minute adding to the tally. Bromsgrove Rovers scored twice in each half on their way to a 4-1 home victory over Bedworth United. Leon Kelly opened Rovers` account after 20 minutes and then Jemiah Richards bagged a brace on 34 and 72 minutes to make the game safe. Paul Lamb reduced the deficit from the penalty spot seven minutes from time only for Kevin Banner to make it 4-1 in stoppage time. In a remarkable game at Dunstable Town the home side raced into a 3-0 lead in the first 8 minutes, thanks to a Stuart Strange hattrick, but Bury Town fought back to take the points, scoring SEVEN without reply, including four in an eight-minute second half spell. Lee Reed helped himself to a hattrick, with Sam Reed, Lee Smith, Russell Short and Gavin Johnson all netting singles. A 14th minute strike by Scott Johnson was sufficient to give Soham Town Rangers a 1-0 win over visiting Rothwell Town, while Marlow, despite going behind in the 11th minute, recorded a 2-1 home win over second-from-bottom Barton Rovers. Alex O`Brien put Rovers in front, Gavin Lane equalised within a minute and Colin Simpson grabbed what proved to be the winner after 27 minutes. Romulus scored twice in the first half through Tyrone Fagan and Tom Franklin to inflict a 2-0 home defeat on bottom side Malvern Town. :
